There are ten rules to stay safe in and around a surf beach. We constructed simulated rips, and the life guards taught us how to wade out rapidly into the surf and dolphin dive.
On Friday the 12th February the senior school, Rooms 10 and 11, headed to Waihi Beach and undertook a program on how to keep safe in the surf. We learnt how to identify rips and what to do if caught in one.

We took part in school athletics with a wide range of track and field events. Congratulations to the children for the manner in which they took part and to those who were successful enough to gain placings and to reach the Thames Valley and Waikato athletics. Our camping experience in Rotorua was one of the most successful camps we've had. In this photo we are visiting Whakarewarewa's wharenui, to learn about the ancestry of the people who settled in this region. Check out nature's spa pool in the photo below. The people who live in Whakarewarewa use the geothermal activity to cook their food and bathe in the hot waters. No electricity bills here! My name is Connor Howard and i am researching about the acting career.
Income- the income of an actor varies depending on your ability and pathway of acting and how often you work. Opportunities- very low due to newzealands low developmentment in the preforming arts industry. Pathways- local theatre company’s ,television networks, movie productions, and theaters. In Room 11 we have been studying what careers we want to have in the future. We have been researching careers that interest us and learning about them. First we wrote down what we like, what we do well, what am I proud of having done, what is important to me and what is some of my positive and unique traits.
This is a bit of what we answered. My name is Monika and I enjoy music, being funny, acting, international cuisine and interior design. I am researching interior design for the job I'm interested in. I have found out that people have an average chance of getting this job. My name is Heather I am good at swimming, netball, art, running and making people laugh. i am researching being a sports coach for the job i am interested in. there is an average chane of people getting this job This coming week will be a busy one for our senior syndicate. On Monday we will take the tree seedlings from our growing unit and plant them in the Booms' Reserve with support from TCDC staff and Beccy Dove, Enviro School's facilitator. We have had a great success rate with raising the native seedlings, the harakeke and the Ti Kouka, cabbage trees. We have also been working hard to prepare the vegetable gardens for their winter plantings and maybe a parent or grandparent might like to help us out with this task.
Mid year reports are out on Tuesday, and the Matariki celebrations take place at the race course on Thursday afternoon. Three of our students will represent the school at the district Maths Problem Challenge on Thursday night at Netherton School. Best of luck to Hayden, Hugo, and Kimheng. They will keep you posted as to the results. Children have been involved in the drug and alcohol education program over the week with Constable Sell. Ask the children what they have learnt from the program. We are also concurrently investigating careers and children are pursuing their passions. Watch this space. Paul As a key part of our Social Studies program the children investigated why we have ANZAC Day ceremonies, the war at Gallipoli, and, the impact of the war on the lives of the soldiers and their families in the past and present. Letters from an ancestor of mine were shared with the children so there was a very personal touch to the story. Why do we continue to remember them? An action the class took was to assemble the crosses and set them out on the front school lawn. Each cross had the label of a deceased soldier, but also represented over 90 soldiers per cross, the 2779 soldiers who died in the Gallipoli campaign.
The children are studying Forces with Julie Crimmins during my release time this term, and a Drug and Alcohol Education program will be run in June with the Police Education Officer. |
